Better Biteables!
We have been learning how to use Biteable to share information. Miss W made one to show us. She loves ice skating and because we are going ice skating soon, we thought we might share this for everyone to see!
5 Facts About Ice Skating on Biteable.
Have you ever made a Biteable video before? We think they are really fun to make!

How to Leave a Comment/Find Our Blog!
This week in Cybersmart we have been learning how to use Venngage!
We worked with Miss Morgan and Miss W to make a Venngage about how to find our blogs. We learnt about choosing a blank template and adding information in a screenshot, a text and putting pictures in using the icons.
We had lots of fun using Venngage and we might even start to use it to show our learning in class when we've had some practice!
What do you think about our poster? Is it clear and easy to follow? What could we change to make things better?

Matariki Clay Stars
We made clay stars during Matariki at the end of last term. We made stars because they mean it is the beginning of the Maori New Year. We found out information about Matariki here.
First we used rollers to flatten the clay and then we used a star cutter to make the shape. Next we made marks on it for decoration with shape cutters, skewers and bottle tops. After that we had to leave them to dry for two weeks so that they could be put into a furnace. The furnace was 1200 degrees celsius and it made it really hard.
These are some of our stars up close!
Have you ever made Matariki Stars? Do you like our stars?
T3W6 2019 Bites of Biteable
This week for CyberSmart we have been playing around with Biteable and experimenting with what it can do! We can use Biteable to make a video and share information.
Description Writing on Biteable.
Miss W made one to show us the things we needed for descriptions. We looked at how you could choose a template and change the colours and the writing. It looked really cool!
Have a look at the one Miss W made about writing a description.

Furry Friends
This morning we had a lovely visitor! Ruby's grandmother came into school with her dog!
Her dog was a chihuahua and his name was Remington!
We learnt that they are the smallest dog in the world and that Ruby's grandmother has had him since he was 8 weeks old. He was very fluffy and smooth and he wears outfits. Today he was wearing his school uniform. Ruby likes to put clothes on Remington when it's cold!
We got to sit in a circle and pat the dog. Everyone got to have a turn. We put all the facts we know about Remington into a Venngage, because we were learning how to use it this morning!
Have a look - do you know any facts about chihuahuas?

We love our new sandpit!
We have been really lucky at our school to have a sandpit for ages, but it used to be quite small and there was a really big wall and a massive tree in the way!
Now we have a huuuuuuuge sandpit! Erica and Jack Steele and the PTA were super generous because the wall came down and they built us a new even bigger sandpit! We are so happy we have lots of extra space!
Miss W took a video of some of us boys playing at break time in the sandpit - we were digging a big hole pretending that we were mining. It was epic!
Have you got a cool spot in your playground that you really love?

TM2's Holiday Stories!
Hello readers!
We have had an awesome school holiday and we have all done heaps of different things.
Connor thinks he broke the chain on his quad bike and he got it stuck in the sand on a track! Hopefully he can fix it soon! Jayden also lost his account on Roblox and had to make a new one! Bridie went pony riding with Paige in TM1. Dylan went to the lego show on Sunday.
Casey went with his friend and sister to see the Lion King movie the day it was released and finally he got to download Minecraft! Riley got to go and watch Toy Story 4 and he got to have lollies and a lemon, lime and bitters.
Alex went skiing at Mount Hutt. It was really cold and she fell over a few times but she had an awesome time! Stella also went skiing at Mount Hutt and had some lessons! We're looking forward to skiing and ice skating at our Winter Fun Day in September.

2019 Disco
We had a disco at Hornby Working Men's Club and it was very fun. It started at 6pm and ended at 8pm on Friday. It was a really big hall and it had lots of balloons, drawings in glow in the dark paint and there were heaps of lights! It was really dark apart from the flashing lights. We played games like catching to win prizes. We had to catch a ball and if we did we got a coca cola watch! We played find the pink dot as well. If you found the pink dot you had to scratch it off and you got a McDonalds voucher for a free cheeseburger! We also played limbo. Limbo is a game where you have go under the bar by bending backwards and you weren't allowed to touch the bar. We also had a raffle and a floss competition.
We could buy heaps of stuff at our disco, like glow in the dark sticks and lights. There were also star fish that lit up when you pushed the bottom and fidget pens to buy. There were chips, hotdogs and pizza as well as fizzy drinks and lollies. Mrs T and Ms Lange were also doing face painting. They had glow in the dark and normal face paint and they had some tattoos as well!We also had a heap of music. The PTA made a list of songs that everyone got to choose and they had a big playlist of sensible songs. The PTA raise lots of money for our school and so we need to say THANK YOU! Thank you for organising the disco and the food, we had an awesome time!
Have a look at the photos Miss W took! :)

Bye, Miss Clark!
Miss Clark has been with us for seven whole weeks and she was pretty cool! She came from university to come and learn about being a teacher. She watched what we did and then she started to teach us too.
We learnt about our bodies and how to be healthy and she also taught us how long we should exercise and what to eat. Miss Clark taught us reading, writing and maths and she was very nice.
On the last day she gave us a lovely card and did a lolly scramble! We have been missing her this week!
Come back Miss Clark!!

Alter It!
This week for Cybersmart we were learning to cover up things that shouldn't be shared online in our photos. We looked at Cooper's Blog and saw he had a photo of him wearing a hat that showed somewhere that he visits often.
We didn't think that was very CyberSmart because that is private information, but we liked the photo because he looked really cute. We had to change some pictures and cover up the private information so the photos were CyberSmart.
We also talked about how some information online might not be true or real, so we practiced editing photos to see how easy it is. Miss W showed us SnapChat and the filters that people can use to make things look different in a photo.
We played around and we were even able to turn some of the boys into girls, give people fake glasses and change how they looked! It was quite funny but it also showed us that not everything online is true!

How to be a YMS HERO around Younger Kids!
This afternoon we have been working on a Pick A Path story! A Pick a Path story is when you have links and you pick a path. We have been talking about being kind to little kids, because they don't know everything yet and they watch us to know how to do things at school.
Please leave a comment and tell us what you think. Have you ever made a pick a path story before?

Mentos and Coke Fizz
On Friday Miss Clark did a science experiment with us. We had to put mentos into a bottle of coke and look at the reaction.
We also looked at the difference between the diet coke and the full sugar coke because we had been looking at how much sugar was in different drinks. Have a look at our video and see if you can spot the difference. Do you know what is supposed to happen?
Can you figure out why our experiment gave us different results?

Sugary Science!
We have looked really hard at the different types of drinks this week and how much sugar is in each one!
We looked at coke, sprite, red bull, fruit juice, V, ginger beer, strawberry milk, flavoured water and powerade zero.
We had to work out which one had the most sugar and then order the drinks from the most to the least sugar. We also put the teaspoons of sugar for each drink into a bag so we could see how much sugar was dissolved into the liquid.
Then we looked at how sugar can give us cavities in our teeth, because of the bacteria in our mouth. If we don't brush our teeth and we eat or drink lots of sugar then the bacteria starts to attack your teeth and make holes called cavities in your teeth, because they make acid.
What drinks do you drink and how much sugar is in them?

Balloons & Breathing
Last week Miss Clark taught us all about the respiratory system and how we breathe.
We take the air through our mouth and nose and down our windpipe. The air travels through our windpipe and into our lungs. After it goes into your lungs some of the oxygen goes into our blood and our blood moves it around our body.
We decided that we wanted to find out how much air we each breathe. We blew up a balloon in 8 seconds and then we tied it up and put them behind Miss W's desk. That first balloon was how much air we had to start with.
After that we ran to the end of the field and back, then we blew up another balloon for eight seconds and we tied that up. We needed to do it at the same time, but we ended up in two groups! One straight away and then the other group ended up waiting. Then we had to measure both balloons.
We realised that most of the balloons after our run were bigger than the balloons before our run. Dylan said that this was because after our run we are puffing more than we normally do. Angel-Mey said that the balloons were bigger after our run because we took in more air than before. Bridie said that we discovered that when you blow calmly, you're putting some air into the balloon but when you're puffed you're putting extra air in.
A few of us found out that our second balloons were smaller than our first one and we thought that would be the case. We thought that our second balloon would be smaller because we would have less energy and less air to spare!
Miss Clark made a graph to show us how big our balloons were before and after.
What are you doing for science this term? Do you know another way to measure air? Do you think this was a fair test? Why or why not?
