Pick A Path Story

We have been writing a Pick a Path story to teach people how to be a YMS HERO at school.

We took something that might happen to us and turned it into a story. There are lots of options you can pick from. Some of them are the bad choices and some of them are the good choices. We should be using the good choices to make sure that everyone is happy and safe in our school.

Sometimes people will get angry, sad or frustrated but it is important that they think before they do or act. If they are feeling grumpy and they don't think, they might end up making the wrong choices.

Have a read of our Pick a Path story and use the links to choose which choice is a good one! Some of these end happily and some end sadly. Please leave us a comment to tell us which one you chose! :)

  1. Hi
We enjoyed the way that we could chose the path for the story. We picked to be happy for the other team then we said "That's ok we might win next time."
How did you think of the ideas for the story?
Was it difficult to create a pick a path story?
How did you get the pick a path to work?

  2. Hi Kererū! Thank you for the comment and questions that you've asked us!

We talked about how to be a Responsible Citizen in the playground and we thought about all the different ways people can act to problems that might happen. We picked some people playing rugby because we know that sometimes arguments happen when a team loses but they have be responsible and make a good choice.

It was quite easy because Miss W helped us with the hyperlinks, but we think it would be difficult to do it by ourselves. To get it to work we had to use hyperlinks to different slides, that's why the words are underlined and you can click on them.

What was your favourite part of the story? And do you think that you could have a go yourself? You could find out how to hyperlink on Youtube and make one together as a class!

  3. Hi Te Māhuri,

When we read your story, we decided to choose the good choices path, and then we went back and tried the bad choices path to see the difference. We could see how the good choices led to a good outcome for the children in the story. We liked how we could choose a path, and how there were different endings.
How did you come up with the idea to make a pick a path story?
Did each student in the class come up with their own pick a path story, or did you just do one as a whole class?
We enjoyed your pick a path story so much that we might make our own one next term.
