Four Legged Friend

This morning a Dalmatian called Baxter and his handler Chris came to visit YMS. He taught us about dogs and keeping safe.

IF A DOG'S ON IT'S OWN, LEAVE IT ALONE!
We learnt that if a dog is on it's own we need to leave it alone because it might bite you. If it's with something that it's owner owns then it might think it's guarding or protecting it and if you go near it then it might go snap!

Dylan got to go up and learn how to pick up dog poo on the street. First he had to put his hand inside the bag, then he had to pick up the dog poo inside the bag, then pulled the bag inside out so the poo is in the inside and he had tie a knot so that it didn't escape. You have to make sure that you pick up dog droppings otherwise you will get a fine of $300.

Have you got a dog? Do you know about how to keep yourself safe around dogs?

    1. Kia ora Dylan!

Thank you for leaving us a lovely comment! It was a good idea that you made a comment while your video was processing. We think that is showing you are using your initiative. We had lots of fun at the wharehui learning new tips to be safe around dogs. What was your favourite part?

  2. Good Morning Buddy Class,

That was a great video on how to care for your dog when going for a walk in public. We have a dog in our school named Loki who helps the children read. Also a teacher named Miss Cox has a guide dog called Allan who helps people when they are blind.

Mona - who is 9 years old in Room 7 has a black labrador that is 3 months old. Lara has 2 dogs called August and Juno who are walked by her brother Ben, when he goes for a bike ride. Amindeep has a Sharpie puppy and a Labrador dog.

Baxter looked like a strong, healthy well cared for dog and we loved watching your video.

Does your school have a dog that visits and helps the children learn?

    Wishing you a great day.
