Merry Christmas!

This is going to be our last blog post for the year!

We've had an awesome time in TM in 2019, learnt heaps of new stuff, read tons of books, solved lots of maths problems, made new friends and enjoyed ourselves.

It is time for us to say goodbye for another year and head off on our summer holidays now that we've finished tidying our class, had the family fun day, a santa visit and helped Miss W move all her junk!

Thank you for an awesome year and some awesome blog comments! We hope that you have enjoyed hearing about our year! We have loved reading blogs from around NZ and seeing what everyone else has been learning.

Good luck to everyone leaving, especially Jayden and Miss W!

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year from TM2, Miss W and of course, Tinsel Stripeypins the elf! We hope you have a great summer break!

Goodbye to Miss W :(

We have some news to share... Miss W is leaving us at the end of the year!

We found out the other day that Miss W is leaving and going to be working at another school next year. She's off to Burnham Primary School in 2020 to be a learning support coordinator and we're going to miss her! Lots of us have cried and had lots of hugs and giggles (especially Miss W!) but we know that we won't forget her and she won't forget us!

Good luck Miss W! We will miss you xxx

Ruby was a bit shy to tell us but her grandmother came and let us and then she was really happy and smiled heaps when we all clapped for her!

Here is the picture that taken when she won the award!

Well done, Ruby! Gymnastics superstar!

Dropping in

We had a new elf come to our classroom. She's called Tinsel Stripeypins. She has black shoes and white gloves and stripy pants on. Recently she has been frozen and sat inside a pot because there was a snowstorm on the way to visiting NZ and coming to our class.

Stella's elf at home went missing and he had done the same - he froze himself and blamed it on Elsa!

Tinsel Stripeypins is now hanging from the roof because she's trying to dry out, like an elf clothes line!

Today the elf on the shelf brought us letters from Santa. They are replying to the letters that we sent to him on Friday! They came in different colours and faces on the envelopes. We had snowmen, reindeers, elves and Santa envelopes! She also left us a note:

How many elves do you have in your class? Or do you have an elf on the shelf at home? Have you sent letters to Santa yet?

TM Trip 2019

Yesterday we had our school trip to Riccarton Bush House. We have been learning about the history of Christchurch and Canterbury this term and looking at how people lived when they first arrived by boat.

We learned heaps from our amazing tour guides and we even heard about the ghost story! Apparently there is a ghost who is the first owner of the house that lives in the house still. We didn't see it because it was day time but people have seen it before.

We had a great time and Ms Lange researched some victorian time games that we could play and we got to walk around the bush, have a picnic lunch and then came home on the bus.

We had a great time and would totally recommend going for a visit. It was amazing!

They didn't used to have running water or flushing toilets so they had commodes. Bridie is sitting on the commode! The lady who's house it was had it brought over on the ship with her so that she could use the toilet in the bedroom and she had servants who would empty it for her... YUCK!

We had a great time... Have you ever visited Riccarton Bush House before?

Four Legged Friend

This morning a Dalmatian called Baxter and his handler Chris came to visit YMS. He taught us about dogs and keeping safe.

IF A DOG'S ON IT'S OWN, LEAVE IT ALONE!
We learnt that if a dog is on it's own we need to leave it alone because it might bite you. If it's with something that it's owner owns then it might think it's guarding or protecting it and if you go near it then it might go snap!

Dylan got to go up and learn how to pick up dog poo on the street. First he had to put his hand inside the bag, then he had to pick up the dog poo inside the bag, then pulled the bag inside out so the poo is in the inside and he had tie a knot so that it didn't escape. You have to make sure that you pick up dog droppings otherwise you will get a fine of $300.

Have you got a dog? Do you know about how to keep yourself safe around dogs?

More Heads Up Hilarity!

We taught the Year 3's from Ms Lange's class to play Heads Up this afternoon. We did a video of everyone so they could see what they looked like and Bella looked hilarious! Have a look!

Wet Day Madness!

Today we have been stuck inside all day. It feels like years... We hooked up Miss W's iPad to the TV and played Heads Up. Miss W videoed us because she said we looked really funny!

To play the game you need an iPad and then you download the game Heads Up (It's a game by Ellen Degeneres). It shows a phrase or word and the person holding the iPad has to guess what the word is without looking. Everyone else has to act it out or give them clues so they can guess. If you get it right then you flip the iPad forwards, if you give up then you flip backwards.

Our best score was 8 in 1 minute. You get timed for 1 minute and you have to guess as many as you can. There's different characters and today we picked the acting out one. It's like charades.

Have a look at how much fun we are having!

Have you ever played Heads Up before?

Super School Holidays

We have just finished our school holidays and started back for Term 4! This year has gone super fast! We got to do some awesome things in the holidays like go to the movies, see our friends and family and gone out for lunch or dinner!

Sam went to Stewart Island and he got to go to the beach and saw a sea lion. He thought it was awesome because it looked just like a seal and he loves seals!

Casey went to lots of places, but his favourite was Godley Head Military Base, because he found loaded guns being held by skeletons and he got to shoot them! It sounded pretty crazy!

Alex got a pet piglet in the holidays. She called it Ron after Ron Weasley in Harry Potter! Her mum and dad let her get her own pet and look after them! Her older sister got to have 3 baby cows!

Lilly went to Denny's for lunch - yum! She got curly fries with a hot dog all to herself and her mum and dad went too because it was the holidays. Sounds pretty tasty!

Riley got to go and play mini-golf! His aunty won but Riley had heaps of fun and came second! It was a bit hard but he was able to get the ball to go into the hole with the club. He said he didn't need any help! What a pro!

We also have all written on our individual blogs if you would like to find out some more information about our holidays :)

What did you do in the holidays? :)

TM2's Digi Awards 2019

Kia ora bloggers!

We have been working on our Digi Awards this term and we are proud to say we are finally finished! Miss W entered our videos last night!

We have been creating games for our technology unit this term and our Digi Award entries are all adverts for our cool new games! Some groups did a film using the iPad and others did an animation and used Screencastify to video their advert.

Watch our entries on the slide show here! If you want to make them full screen you can and click on the video to play it. We will be posting these on our own blogs too so you can find our videos there as well.
We hope you enjoyed watching our adverts - what did you think? Have you been making anything for Digi Awards this year? Some of us think that we might win! Do you think that you might win?

Better Biteables!

We have been learning how to use Biteable to share information. Miss W made one to show us. She loves ice skating and because we are going ice skating soon, we thought we might share this for everyone to see!

5 Facts About Ice Skating on Biteable.

Have you ever made a Biteable video before? We think they are really fun to make!

How to Leave a Comment/Find Our Blog!

This week in Cybersmart we have been learning how to use Venngage!

We worked with Miss Morgan and Miss W to make a Venngage about how to find our blogs. We learnt about choosing a blank template and adding information in a screenshot, a text and putting pictures in using the icons.

We had lots of fun using Venngage and we might even start to use it to show our learning in class when we've had some practice!

What do you think about our poster? Is it clear and easy to follow? What could we change to make things better?

Matariki Clay Stars

We made clay stars during Matariki at the end of last term. We made stars because they mean it is the beginning of the Maori New Year. We found out information about Matariki here.

First we used rollers to flatten the clay and then we used a star cutter to make the shape. Next we made marks on it for decoration with shape cutters, skewers and bottle tops. After that we had to leave them to dry for two weeks so that they could be put into a furnace. The furnace was 1200 degrees celsius and it made it really hard.

Once they were fired we had to paint them and put the wire through the little hole. Then we are going to take them home in bubble wrap.

These are some of our stars up close!

Have you ever made Matariki Stars? Do you like our stars?

Merry Christmas!
